The Department of School Education on Friday banned the use of cellphones by students in schools. In a circular issued to all schools, Director of School Education E Vallavan also barred teachers from using cellphones in classrooms and laboratories.The teachers have been directed to keep a strict vigil on the use of cellphones by students. In case of any emergency, students can use the pay phones in their schools.The Education Department warned the students that violation would invite stringent action, while teachers may be placed under suspension in case of a violation. Flying squads have also been constituted to monitor students and teachers.
